Kerala CM Vijayan: Election Commission’s Voter List Plan a Threat to Democracy

On Tuesday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) for its decision to carry out a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter lists in Kerala and other states.

He called the ECI’s plan a serious danger to democracy and said it causes people to doubt the Commission’s true intentions. He warned that the move could hurt the public’s trust in the election system.

Vijayan’s main concern is that the ECI plans to use voter lists from 2002 to 2004 as the basis for the revision, instead of the current lists. He stated that this action goes against the rules set in the Representation of the People Act of 1950 and the Registration of Electors Rules of 1960. With input from PTI.
