Kerala Hijab Row: High Court Seeks Government Stand

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday (October 17) sought the state government’s stand on a petition filed by a church-run school challenging an Education Department directive to permit a Muslim girl student to attend classes wearing her religious headscarf, or ‘hijab’.

Justice V.G. Arun directed the government lawyer to appear with instructions regarding the allegations in the petition submitted by St. Rita’s Public School in Palluruthy, Kochi. The school’s petition also challenged a department notice alleging “serious malfunctioning” at the institution.

The case has been adjourned for further hearing on October 24.
