Speaking at a press conference, the BJP leader presented the electorate with two primary options: the Congress-led UDF—which he claimed includes alliances with the Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami—and the NDA, comprising the BJP, BDJS, and Twenty20. He criticized the Congress for failing to serve as an effective opposition and alleged a tactical understanding between the CPM and the Congress to deflect blame onto the Central Government for the state’s failings.
Turning his focus to the state’s finances, Chandrasekhar described Kerala’s economy as a “Ponzi scheme,” where funds are constantly diverted from one project to another. He alleged that out of every Rs 100 in revenue, Rs 92 is consumed by debt servicing and pensions, leaving a mere 8% for actual developmental work. Comparing the LDF’s tenure to the previous UPA rule at the Centre, he argued that 10 years of economic mismanagement have pushed Kerala into severe backwardness, while the Union Government continues to focus on borrowing for productive economic growth.
