Kerala Records 3,259 Leptospirosis Cases, 209 Deaths This Year: Union Health Minister Nadda

NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda informed the Lok Sabha on Friday that Kerala reported a total of 3,259 confirmed leptospirosis cases and 209 related deaths between January 1 and December 5 this year.

Responding to a query, Mr. Nadda provided the district-wise break-up, stating that Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest number of cases among the 14 districts in Kerala with 583 infections. This was closely followed by Ernakulam, which saw 492 cases, and Thrissur with 340 cases.

The Minister further added that as public health falls under the State List in the Constitution, the primary responsibility for the surveillance, reporting, and response to the disease lies with the respective state government. (PTI)
