Man Arrested for Vandalizing Temple in Nilambur; Accused Remanded for 15 Days.

NILAMBUR: The Nilambur police have arrested a 37-year-old man, identified as Nadir from Enanthi, for allegedly trespassing into the Mummulli Kuttichathankavu temple and causing significant damage to the idols and premises. The arrest was made following a formal complaint filed by the temple’s family representatives.

According to the police, the incident occurred last Sunday around 3:00 PM when the accused arrived at the temple in his car, accompanied by a 14-year-old minor. Nadir reportedly entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Goddess and attempted to desecrate the idol. He also broke the locks of the temple office. When a local resident, Rajeena, tried to intervene, the accused allegedly threatened her with a knife.

Following the incident, the Nilambur police, led by DySP Saju K. Abraham, tracked the suspect’s car location to Karuvarakundu, where he was working at a local religious institution. Nadir was apprehended with the assistance of the Karuvarakundu police and subsequently produced before a magistrate, who remanded him to 15 days in custody. Charges have been filed under various sections, including those pertaining to the disruption of communal harmony and criminal intimidation.
