KOCHI (Jan 28): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched an extensive operation on Wednesday morning, conducting raids at 20 locations across Kerala’s Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts. The searches are part of a broader investigation into terror-related conspiracies involving the banned Popular Front of India (PFI).
Operation Details: The raids commenced at 6:00 AM and targeted eight specific centers in Ernakulam alone. Investigators reportedly seized crucial evidence during the four-hour operation, which concluded around 10:00 AM. Sources indicate that despite a formal ban, authorities suspect the PFI is maintaining a covert underground network in the state.
Link to High-Profile Cases: The current probe is significantly linked to the infamous hand-chopping attack on Professor TJ Joseph. Following the custodial interrogation of the primary accused, Savad, the NIA gained insights into a network spanning Kerala and Tamil Nadu that provided him shelter during his years as a fugitive.
Bounties Announced for Absconding Activists: The agency is actively tracing six key activists who remain at large. Significant rewards have been announced for information leading to their arrest:
- ₹7 Lakh Reward: For Abdul Vahab (Aluva), Abdul Rasheed K (Pattambi), and Ayub TA (Edavanakkad).
- ₹3 Lakh Reward: For Muhammad Mansoor (Pattambi).
- Public Assistance Requested: For locating Muhammad Yasar Arafath (Alangad) and Moideenkutty P (Valanchery).
The NIA’s current strategy focuses on neutralizing the logistical and financial support systems that sustain these absconding members. ( With input from TNIE) https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/kerala/2026/Jan/28/nia-conducts-raids-at-20-pfi-linked-centres-across-three-kerala-districts
