NSS and SNDP Move Toward Strategic Unity Ahead of Kerala Assembly Elections

ALAPPUZHA/KOTTAYAM — In a development that could significantly reshape the political landscape of Kerala, the state’s two most prominent Hindu community organizations have formally initiated a process toward unity just ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The council of the SNDP Yogam, representing the numerically strong Ezhava community, granted official approval on Wednesday to pursue a long-awaited alliance with the Nair Service Society (NSS), the premier organization of the forward Nair community.

The alliance brings together two socio-religious giants with deep historical roots. The SNDP Yogam was established by the legendary saint and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, while the NSS was founded by the renowned social visionary Mannath Padmanabhan. Both organizations command immense influence over their respective communities and have historically played pivotal roles in the state’s social and political discourse.

Speaking from the NSS headquarters in Changanassery shortly after the decision, General Secretary Sukumaran Nair confirmed that the unity between the two organizations will soon become a reality. Parallelly, in Alappuzha, SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellapally Natesan announced that his son and SNDP Vice President, Thushar Vellappally, would lead the next phase of talks. A formal meeting between Thushar and Sukumaran Nair is expected to take place soon to finalize the framework of this historic cooperation.
