Pakistan-Linked Spy Ring Using CCTVs Busted; Nationwide Security Alert Issued.

GHAZIABAD: A major security breach involving a spy network that installed private CCTV cameras to monitor railway stations and military bases has been uncovered in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Acting on intelligence regarding youths in Bhovapur capturing and transmitting sensitive footage abroad, authorities dismantled a ring threatening national security. So far, 22 individuals, including minors, have been apprehended in connection with the case. Investigation revealed that Pakistani intelligence networks exploited both existing CCTV infrastructure in cities like Delhi and illegally installed cameras to gather strategic data. In light of these findings, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all states to conduct a thorough audit of all registered and unregistered CCTV networks across the country to prevent further security compromises.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising Crime Branch and cyber units identified Pakistan-based handlers—Suhail Malik, Naushad Ali, and Sameer—as the masterminds. They used encrypted messaging apps to provide specific instructions on what to film and when to send coordinates. The recruited youths were paid between ₹5,000 and ₹20,000 for each task completed. Further scrutiny revealed that four of the accused had previously visited Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir to transmit vital data to Pakistan. Security agencies suspect that this network was not merely for espionage but was part of a reconnaissance mission for a second major attack in the region. The handlers strategically recruited individuals with technical skills in networking and CCTV installation, often targeting those facing financial difficulties to facilitate their operations.

The Ghaziabad police have arrested six individuals at the time of start up of investigation for their alleged involvement in an espionage network linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. The group is accused of installing CCTV cameras at strategic locations to transmit live video feeds concerning army routes, troop strength, and military weaponry. Sources confirmed that the mastermind, Sohail Malik, a resident of Meerut, has been taken into custody. Malik reportedly received ₹10,000 for every video clip he transmitted to his handlers. Along with him, a woman named Mahek (Sane Iram), who was responsible for recruiting young members into the network, was also arrested. Both Mahek and Sohail were in charge of distributing payments to the members based on the tasks they performed. (Defence Squad’s Post & India News)
