Polytechnic Student Beaten to Death During Temple Festival in Kollam; Locals Protest Police Inaction.

KOLLAM: A 18-year-old student, Harikrishnan, who was brutally attacked by a gang during the Maruthadi temple festival, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Harikrishnan, a student at Adoor Manakkala Govt Polytechnic College, was declared brain dead while undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The incident occurred last Sunday during a temple procession when a group of intoxicated men picked a quarrel and struck him on the head with a wooden log.

Harikrishnan was the sole hope for his physically challenged and impoverished parents. Despite the severity of the crime, locals and relatives have expressed outrage over the delay in arresting the culprits, alleging that political influence is shielding the accused. The suspects have reportedly gone into hiding since the news of the death broke out. Shaktikulangara police have registered a case and are currently intensified their search to nab the gang members.
