Qatar Braces for ‘Bard Al Azariq’ as Temperatures Set to Plunge Further.

DOHA: The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced the commencement of ‘Bard Al Azariq’ today, January 24, marking the arrival of the coldest days of the year in the country. This intense cold spell is expected to last for eight days, continuing until the end of the month. The season derives its name from the Arabic word for blue, as traditional lore suggests that faces and limbs can appear blue due to the extreme severity of the winter chill.

Over the past few weeks, Qatar has already been experiencing cold spells, with night-time temperatures dropping to 12°C and daytime highs reaching around 18°C. However, meteorologists predict a further decline in temperatures during this period. According to the latest update from the Qatar Meteorology Department, the Al Shehaniya area has already recorded a minimum temperature of 13°C, signaling the onset of this peak winter phase. https://thepeninsulaqatar.com/article/24/01/2023/brace-for-coldest-days-of-the-year-as-bard-al-azariq-begins
