An industry source confirmed on Thursday that the SAMREF refinery, located in the Red Sea port of Yanbu and operated as a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Exxon Mobil, was the target of an aerial attack.
This incident follows a series of strikes on energy infrastructure in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, which were reportedly launched in retaliation for U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iranian energy installations.
Despite the targeted strike, initial assessments indicate that the impact was minimal and there have been no significant disruptions to facility operations.
Prior to the incident, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had issued evacuation warnings for several major oil facilities across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar. (Reuters)
