Senior Leaders Resign from Twenty-20 Following Alliance with NDA in Kerala

ERNAKULAM: Internal conflicts within Twenty-20, the regional political group led by Kitex MD Sabu M. Jacob, have escalated into a major crisis following the party’s decision to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the Kerala assembly elections. Several senior leaders, including former Vadavukode block panchayat president Raseena Pareeth, resigned from the party on Friday and officially joined the Congress. Pareeth indicated that more leaders dissatisfied with the alliance are expected to follow suit in the coming days.

Raseena Pareeth leveled harsh criticisms against the party leadership, alleging that Twenty-20 has effectively become a recruiting agency for the BJP. She claimed that the crucial decision to align with the NDA was never discussed within the party’s parliamentary board, ward committees, or with elected representatives, and that members only learned of the development through the media. According to her, the party had originally committed to remaining independent of any political front.

Responding to the allegations, Sabu M. Jacob admitted that the decision was not discussed internally beforehand, explaining that the BJP leadership wished to keep the move confidential until the formal announcement. He maintained that only a small number of members are protesting the move and suggested that religious factors might be influencing the resignations. Jacob noted that many who joined Twenty-20 from other political backgrounds are simply returning to their parent organizations and announced that a party meeting would be convened soon to address the situation.
