Thrissur Zoological Park and Research Centre Inaugurated

Thrissur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan officially opened the Thrissur Zoological Park, Wildlife Conservation and Research Centre on Tuesday. The Chief Minister noted that the four-decade-long dream of the people in Thrissur became a reality only because the public re-elected the LDF to power in 2021.

“Kerala has seen incidents where projects get stuck when the government changes. However, the development of the Puthur Zoo was made possible by securing funds through KIIFB (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board),” he stated.

In his speech, the CM detailed how KIIFB funds helped transform key sectors. He highlighted that Rs 5,000 crore was spent on renovating public schools in Kerala, converting classrooms into smart classrooms and creating hi-tech schools.

“When KIIFB was launched, the goal was to spend Rs 50,000 crore in the next five years. However, up until 2021 alone, KIIFB has undertaken projects worth Rs 62,000 crore,” he added.

Forest Minister A K Saseendran, who presided over the ceremony, said that projects like the Puthur Zoo prove that the forest department maintains a friendly approach to public needs, while also addressing human-animal conflicts. Revenue Minister K Rajan called the zoo a result of collective effort that will continue on the path of development.

Other attendees included Finance Minister K N Balagopal, Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine, and Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty. The park will be fully open to the public from January. Currently, animals shifted from the old Thrissur zoo are being housed here. (TNIE)
