Two Cops Found Shot Dead Near Indo-Pak Border in Punjab.

CHANDIGARH: Two Punjab Police personnel were found shot dead at a police checkpost in Gurdaspur district near the Indo-Pak border on Sunday, February 22. The deceased have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar, who were posted at Adhian, located about 2 km from the border. The bodies were discovered inside the checkpost room, and Banarsi Dass, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Dorangla police station, confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway.

The son of the deceased ASI, Sandeep Singh, informed reporters that his father was found in a sitting position on a chair while the other officer was lying on a bench, both having sustained fatal bullet injuries to their heads. While posters from a group calling itself ‘Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan’ (TTH) appeared on social media claiming responsibility, the police have not yet commented on these claims. Such police posts act as a vital second line of defense in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF).

The SHO mentioned that he was present at the post until 11:30 PM the previous night, and the incident was discovered at 7:30 AM when the officers failed to answer their phones. CCTV footage from the area shows unidentified men on two motorcycles near the checkpost around 1:30 AM. At the time of discovery, the ASI had his hands in his pockets while the other cop was on a cot in a sleeping position. The Adhian area is notably sensitive due to frequent drone activities involving the smuggling of narcotics and weapons from across the border, leading to strict vigilance by security agencies.
