THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The tragic death of two individuals due to alleged food poisoning at a hotel in Vizhinjam has highlighted the severe shortage of personnel in Kerala’s Food Safety Department. Critics argue that the lack of adequate staff has hampered regular inspections and enforcement of safety standards.
Responding to the crisis, the state government has announced plans to appoint more Food Safety Officers (FSOs) to the department shortly.
This decision has brought hope to 152 candidates currently waiting on the Public Service Commission (PSC) rank list for these positions. The move is expected to strengthen administrative measures and ensure better consumer safety across the state. (PTI)
