The Election Commission (EC) published the draft rolls on Tuesday following a rigorous month-long SIR exercise. Across the state, over 58 lakh names were struck off the list on various grounds. According to a poll body official, the deletions include 24.17 lakh deceased voters, 19.88 lakh relocated individuals, 12.20 lakh “missing” voters, and 1.38 lakh identified as fake entries.
Massive Deletion in Bhabanipur The impact is most visible in the Chief Minister’s high-profile seat. Data shows that as of January 2025, Bhabanipur had 2,06,295 registered voters. However, the new draft list contains only 1,61,509 names—marking a massive 21.7% drop in the electorate. TMC sources expressed concern over this significant reduction of 44,787 voters just ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
