The life-saving act took place in September 2024, during Jayesh’s tenure at the Puthoor police station in Kollam. An elderly woman, Radhamma, had fallen into a neglected well overgrown with shrubs. While local residents hesitated to enter due to concerns about venomous snakes and low oxygen levels, Jayesh—drawing on his 11-year experience in the Fire and Rescue Services—descended into the 25-foot-deep water without hesitation.
He kept the woman afloat for nearly 40 minutes, tying her to his body to prevent her from drowning while awaiting the fire force. Due to the suffocating conditions at the bottom, his colleagues poured water down to help them breathe. After successfully handing the woman over to safety, Jayesh collapsed unconscious. “Amma now considers me her fourth child,” said the officer, reflecting on the bond formed through the life-threatening ordeal.
