At least 150 oil tankers are currently waiting outside the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes, according to latest shipping data. Following Iran’s threats to close the waterway, dozens more vessels have remained stationary on the opposite side of the chokepoint.
Estimates based on MarineTraffic data and reported by Reuters show that these tankers are clustered in open waters off the coasts of major Gulf oil producers, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The buildup comes as shipowners take a cautious approach amid heightened regional tensions and Iranian warnings that no vessels are allowed to pass. The ongoing disruption to this vital corridor, which handles 20% of global oil trade, is raising fears of a massive spike in international fuel prices. (SKY NEWS & REUTERS)
