KPCC Intensifies Push for K. Sudhakaran to Withdraw; Emotional Social Media Post Triggers Debate.

KANNUR: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has stepped up efforts to persuade K. Sudhakaran, MP, to withdraw from the race for the Assembly seat from the Kannur constituency. KPCC President Sunny Joseph recently met Mr. Sudhakaran in New Delhi to convey that the final decision on candidates would be taken by the party High Command. This move is part of the leadership’s broader strategy to discourage sitting MPs from entering the Assembly fray.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sudhakaran’s emotional message on his Facebook page has become a major talking point in political circles. In the post, he defended his deep-rooted connection to Kannur, comparing his role to that of “a mother hen shielding her chicks from stones, knives, and bombs.” His post read:

“Kannur is my heart’s blood. The Congress in Kannur has always been my identity. I can never stand by and watch Communist assassins harm my brothers, whom I have fought for and protected like a mother hen shielding her chicks under her wings from stones, knives, sickles, and bombs. When I wake up, what appears before my eyes are the dreams of our party that we built together by giving our life and blood. When I close my eyes, what appears in my inner vision are the lifeless faces of my colleagues who were hunted down and killed by Communists. Kannur is our land where heart’s blood has dripped. It is the sacrificial land of the Congressmen who fought and won. K. Sudhakaran will always be at the forefront, carrying the tricolor flag of the Congress for that soil. In the soil where my blood and sweat fell, where the blood of my colleagues fell, where the heart-wrenching cries of loved ones who lost their kin rose, K. Sudhakaran will stand with his head held high. Until this moment, I have not thought about my home or family while working to protect my movement. Every leader in Kannur today is someone who grew up and worked holding my hand. There is no Kannur that I do not know, and there is no Kannur that does not know me. Others might be able to forget the paths of fire we traversed, but for me, these are raw realities that cannot be forgotten even in death.”

The post is seen as a defiant signal to the party leadership that he intends to stay firm on his decision to contest for the Kannur seat. (TIM)
