Pathanamthitta: Residents of Kulathumon in Kalanjoor are in a state of panic after a black panther was spotted in the area. The animal was seen on Saturday evening around 5:00 PM in the property of Shiju, the president of the Vana Samrakshana Samiti.
Forest officials confirmed the presence of the black panther after verifying mobile phone footage captured by local residents. There are also reports that the panther killed a goat belonging to a local farmer. Just a week ago, students and locals had reported seeing a black panther in front of a school bus on the Kulathumon-Pethumpara road.
Following these sightings, the Forest Department has installed surveillance cameras in the area and officials stated that a cage will be set up soon to trap the animal. Given that leopards have been captured from this specific location four times in the past, authorities have heightened their vigil to ensure public safety. (KN)
