KOZHIKODE: The police have arrested three persons in connection with an incident where firecrackers were burst dangerously in the middle of a busy public road in the name of Eid celebrations. The Koduvally Police took into custody Muhammad Faiz, a native of Kizhakkoth in Koduvally; V. Arshad from Velattil in Kunnamangalam; and Muhammad Shanid from Vadakkepurayil in Koduvally. Officers informed that one more individual from the group is yet to be apprehended.
The untoward incident took place on the night of May 27. The reckless celebrations by a group of youths caused a severe traffic gridlock near the Koduvally Bus Stand on the busy Kozhikode-Kollegal National Highway. The group created a highly hazardous situation by bursting high-decibel firecrackers right in the center of the active road and forcefully blocking ongoing vehicular traffic.
As traffic remained completely blocked for a considerable amount of time, a heated argument and physical altercations broke out between the local residents, stranded commuters, and the rowdy youths. Upon receiving information, the Koduvally Police rushed to the spot and subsequently registered a case against the violators, invoking Sections 285 and 288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police initiated the arrest procedures after meticulously examining the CCTV footage collected from the crime scene.
