THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has emerged from the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, where maggots were found infesting the operated leg of a patient. The victim, Rajendraprasad, a native of Parippally, suffered this harrowing ordeal due to gross apathy from the hospital authorities. The patient’s relatives have accused the medical college of severe lapses in providing proper healthcare and attention.
Rajendraprasad had sustained critical injuries to his leg in a major bike accident on the 28th of last month. Following the accident, he was rushed to the Medical College Hospital, where doctors performed a surgery and inserted medical rods into his injured leg. He was subsequently kept under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for five days. The shocking incident came to light today when Rajendraprasad was finally shifted to a general ward after his five-day stay in the ICU.
Upon his arrival in the ward, his relatives were horrified to notice maggots crawling over his operated leg. Enraged by the patient’s deteriorating condition and visible neglect, the relatives staged a massive protest and created a ruckus at the hospital premises. Following the intense outrage and pressure from the family, the hospital authorities hurriedly shifted the patient back to the ICU for emergency care.
