KANNUR: Taliparamba MLA T. K. Govindan responded firmly to the death threat call he received, stating that he does not take the warning seriously. Speaking to Asianet News, the MLA made it clear that he will not be frightened by such anonymous phone calls. He described the threat as a direct manifestation of the intolerance brewing within the CPI(M). Govindan remarked that while he does not believe top CPI(M) leaders are directly involved in orchestrating this, such threats and acts of aggression often take place with the tacit and psychological support of the party leadership. He revealed that the caller warned him that “his journey would not last long and people inside the jail would handle the rest of the job”.
The MLA added that besides the life threat, the caller used highly abusive and vulgar language during the conversation. The abuser targeted not just him but also hurled profanities at senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala. Govindan stated that the core objective behind this call is to deliberately create friction and nurture hatred among the CPI(M) cadres. The ultimate goal is to silence and intimidate him into submission. However, he emphasized that he is not someone who can be easily scared away by these empty threats. Given that the caller explicitly stated that the party would manage things if he ended up in jail, Govindan asserted that it is only natural to suspect the awareness of the party leadership behind this mischief.
