CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government has officially granted permission for theatres across the state to conduct 6:00 AM special movie screenings in light of major new Tamil film releases ahead of Diwali. Under the new government order approved by Chief Minister Vijay, cinema halls are also permitted to host up to six shows per day.
Issued on November 3, the government order stipulates that for the first seven days following a new film’s release, theatres can run screenings continuously from 6:00 AM until 2:30 AM the following day. The state government took the decision following joint representations submitted by the Tamil Film Producers Council, Tamil Film Active Producers Association, and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association.
Film industry bodies had strongly urged the administration to reinstate early morning screenings during festive periods and major star releases to accommodate high audience demand. With the issuance of this order, long-standing operational restrictions on theatre show timings and daily screening limits have been significantly eased.
