Directed by Jack Gold and released in 1987, ‘Escape From Sobibor’ is a British television film that tells the harrowing true story of the prisoner uprising and mass escape from the Nazi extermination camp at Sobibor, Poland, during World War II. It remains one of the most powerful survival dramas ever made on the Holocaust.

Story & Plot
The film opens with a train delivering a new batch of Jewish prisoners to the Nazi death camp at Sobibor in Poland. While the Nazis assure them it is merely a labor camp, the prisoners soon realize the horrifying reality: except for a small group with specialized trades (such as tailors, goldsmiths, and shoemakers), the vast majority are immediately sent to gas chambers and cremated. The surviving skilled inmates are spared only to sort the belongings of the victims and serve the SS officers.
Surviving under constant brutality and terror, prisoner leader Leon Feldhendler realizes that once the trains stop arriving, the remaining inmates will also be liquidated. He begins formulating an escape plan. The resistance gains strategic strength when Lieutenant Alexander “Sasha” Pechersky, a Russian-Jewish Red Army officer, arrives at the camp with a group of Soviet prisoners of war.
The plan involves luring SS officers one by one into camp workshops and quietly executing them before they can raise the alarm, followed by a calm, orderly march out the front gate disguised as a routine roll call. However, when an SS officer stumbles upon a corpse, the alarm sounds prematurely. Sasha and Leon urge the inmates to revolt and flee immediately. Dodging machine-gun fire and navigating minefields, over 300 prisoners break through the fences and escape into the surrounding forest.
