VIZHINJAM: The Vizhinjam police have formally arrested a man named Abhilash in connection with the tragic death of his wife, who was found hanging inside her in-laws’ residence. The deceased woman, identified as Vighneshwari, was found dead inside the house a few days ago. Following a detailed on-site inspection, the police recovered a suicide note written by Vighneshwari, which explicitly stated that she was driven to end her life due to relentless physical torture inflicted by her husband, who routinely returned home in an inebriated state. The note also contained a heartbreaking apology reading, “Sorry, I cannot stay in this house anymore.”
Based on the explicit contents of the suicide note and preliminary findings, the police registered a case against Abhilash and placed him under arrest on charges of abetment of suicide. Investigators added that they have successfully gathered undeniable digital evidence detailing the chronic physical abuse from Vighneshwari’s mobile phone. A technical analysis of her phone confirmed a long history of marital violence and domestic harassment.
Vighneshwari was the daughter of Nagarajan and Kala, residing in Nagercoil. The harrowing incident came to light on Tuesday evening when her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom. At the time of the incident, she was alone in the house. When Abhilash’s father, Chandran, returned home later in the evening, he found the front door securely locked from the inside. Driven by anxiety as Vighneshwari repeatedly left her phone unanswered, Chandran, with the assistance of a neighbor, smashed open a window pane to look inside, only to discover her body. The local authorities were immediately alerted to the scene.
