New Delhi: If the students’ protest held the Modi government hostage for a week, its potency was amplified by the political class that blockaded the Parliament alongside. But the symphony was not perfect from the start as the anti-BJP bloc had two opposing streams.
The stream led by the Congress party viewed the CJP (Cockroach Janta Party) with suspicion, haunted as it was by the spectre of the Anna Hazare agitation that became the nemesis of the Manmohan Singh government and was later found to have been orchestrated by the RSS. Fearing a similar political trap, Congress maintained a cautious distance.
On the other hand, Left outfits and several regional parties backed the CJP, projecting it as the genuine voice of the youth. This rift within the Opposition highlighted conflicting strategies in tackling the ruling establishment amidst the nationwide student unrest.
