THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a significant development, Yadu, the KSRTC driver who was involved in a major public altercation on the road with former Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran, has been given a temporary appointment as a driver in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. Following the high-profile controversy, Yadu had registered a formal police complaint against Arya Rajendran, after which the KSRTC management terminated his temporary services. Subsequently, Yadu joined the Congress-led trade union, INTUC. Seeking employment for him on humanitarian grounds, Puthuppally MLA Chandy Oommen had submitted an official recommendation letter to Speaker Thiruvanvanchoor Radhakrishnan, following which the temporary appointment was cleared.
Earlier, then-Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar had stated that the disciplinary action against Yadu Krishna was not because of his street fight with former Mayor Arya Rajendran, but because he was caught driving recklessly while talking on the phone. However, using Right to Information (RTI) documents obtained directly from KSRTC, Yadu had openly countered the former minister’s narrative, claiming it to be completely baseless. Yadu was working as a temporary contract driver with the state transport corporation. The minister’s official stance remained that the strict action was taken because the driver spent nearly six hours continuously talking on his phone using earphones during a long-distance trip from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram.
Ganesh Kumar had argued that such reckless behavior on the highway directly endangered the lives of nearly sixty passengers on board the bus and thousands of other commuters on the road. The minister had stated that the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner had officially handed over the complete Call Detail Records (CDR) of Yadu’s mobile to the KSRTC CMD, and the termination was executed based on that forensic evidence. The minister had also mentioned during an exclusive interview with a private television channel that neither Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan nor any other cabinet ministers had intervened or spoken to him personally regarding the spat with Mayor Arya.
