Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the new building and dialysis unit at Parassala Taluk Hospital, stating that the state government is committed to elevating the healthcare sector to a world-class level. He emphasized that the government will not shy away from development and welfare projects, and that there has been no other period in history where the health sector has been strengthened to this extent. The Chief Minister noted that KIIFB (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board) has invested 10,000 crore rupees for healthcare development.
The Parassala Taluk Hospital is a critical healthcare facility for the people of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The state has a master plan worth 153 crore rupees for its modernization, with the first phase, a multi-specialty block, completed at a cost of 44 crore rupees. This new block includes a trauma care unit, an emergency department, operation theaters, an ICU, ultrasound scanning, a pharmacy, and a central laboratory. A new dialysis block with 14 dialysis machines has also been added, with the capacity to treat 40 people daily in two shifts.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that healthcare institutions in the state, including primary health centers, taluk hospitals with dialysis facilities, and medical colleges with advanced systems, are receiving national recognition due to the government’s clear vision. He also addressed the increase in lifestyle diseases, stating that prevention is as important as treatment. The government’s goal is to ensure that medical expenses do not become a burden for the public, recognizing that healthcare is a fundamental right.
Health Minister Veena George, who presided over the event, stated that providing quality healthcare across Kerala is a key policy of the government and that significant positive changes are happening in the state’s health sector. The inauguration ceremony was attended by local MLAs, district panchayat members, and other officials.
