THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following ‘Operation Toofan’, the Home Department has launched the ‘Vigilance Whistle’ project to combat corruption. Citizens can report any corrupt activity by dialing the toll-free number 1064. Film actor Nivin Pauly will join today as the first ‘Whistle Commando’ of the initiative.
The Home Minister stated that the arrest of school teachers in the Kozhikode MDMA drug case was deeply shocking.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala criticized the government, stating that the Home Department has been functioning without effective leadership for the past 10 years. He added that such a situation was not expected from a senior leader like Pinarayi Vijayan, raising suspicions that an external force has hijacked the department.
In another major administrative movement, the Chief Secretary has recommended appointing S. Sreejith as DGP, and the file has been submitted for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s consideration. The decision follows the suspension of M.R. Ajith Kumar, requiring the next eligible officer to be considered. A screening committee in December had recommended 1996-batch IPS officers Sreejith and Vijay Sakhare. The appointment is meant to fill the vacancy created by Fire Force Chief Nitin Agarwal’s retirement on July 30.
