An explosion occurred in a slow-moving vehicle near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station around 6:50 pm on Monday, resulting in at least 10 deaths and many injuries. Following the blast, several other vehicles caught fire.
Thirty victims were taken to LNJP Hospital, where 10 were declared dead, and several remain in critical condition. Police, the Bomb Disposal Squad, and Forensic teams cordoned off the area, and fire services doused the flames.
Home Minister Amit Shah stated that all possibilities are being probed and visited the injured in the hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Shah regarding the incident. The city has been placed on high alert, and police in neighboring states, including Mumbai, have also been alerted.
Entry and exit at Gate No. 1 of the metro station have been restricted, though Metro services are running normally. Authorities are investigating whether the blast is linked to a separate recovery of 300 kg of explosives and weapons earlier in the day in Faridabad. Political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have shared their condolences. (TNIE)
