Kerala Education Min Sivankutty Meets Pradhan, Conveys State’s Stance on PM SHRI Project

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the state government’s decision to put the PM SHRI project on hold, General Education Minister V Sivankutty has conveyed the state’s position regarding the scheme’s implementation to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Meeting the Union minister in New Delhi on Monday afternoon, Sivankutty informed him of the state’s stance on the policy, including the appointment of a seven-member sub-committee to study the scheme, the minister’s office reported. However, no formal document or letter detailing this was involved in the discussion.

Sivankutty also told reporters after the meeting that he had invited the Union Minister to be the chief guest of the Kerala Education Conclave, which is scheduled to be held in Thiruvananthapuram in January 2026. At the meeting, which was intended to discuss the release of central funds for Samagra Shiksha Kerala (SSK) from the 2023-24 financial year, the minister stated that he urged for the immediate release of the remaining ₹1,066.36 crore for Samagra Shiksha Kerala as a single installment. Sivankutty added that Pradhan responded favorably to this request.

He further stressed the urgent need to release funds for hostels falling under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Maha Abhiyan scheme, amounting to ₹6.19 crore, and ₹3.57 crore under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyaan scheme. (TNIE)
