Alappuzha: Muhammed Yaseen, a student born with physical limitations in his limbs, is gaining national attention for his excellence in the fields of art and sports. Yaseen, a native of Alappuzha, not only won the Best Actor Award in the high school drama competition but also received the prestigious Sreshtha Divyang Bal Puraskar (Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities).
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the 2025 national award to Yaseen at the function held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Excellence in Theatre and Music
Acting Achievement: Yaseen won the Best Actor award for his performance in the play titled ‘Thallu’ (The Fight/Clash). He played the role of Myawoosan, a cat, in the drama. The play also received an ‘A’ grade. The contemporary play was written and directed by the renowned children’s theatre director, Biju Manjadi.
Music: Yaseen, an 8th-grade student at R.V.S. M.H.S.S. Prayar, is also a talented keyboard artist.
Yaseen began his music practice on a toy piano worth ₹250, which his father, Shanavas, bought him during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite not having palms on both hands, Yaseen plays the keyboard using a unique, self-taught style. He can play the keyboard for more than a hundred songs.
Yaseen has also received the State Government’s Ujwala Balyam Puraskar (Bright Childhood Award).
A Fan Meets His Idol, Suresh Gopi
Muhammed Yaseen is an avid fan of actor Suresh Gopi. Yaseen used to play the background score of the movie ‘Commissioner’ on his keyboard and send it to Suresh Gopi every year on his birthday.
Following his national award win, Suresh Gopi met Yaseen in person and had breakfast with him. Suresh Gopi stated, “It was a great pleasure to meet this smart young boy.”
Yaseen is the son of Shanavas and Shaila, who reside at H.S. Manzil, Prayar Vadakku, Kayamkulam.
