Sivagiri Pilgrimage is an Eternal Inspiration for Kerala’s Socio-Cultural Fabric: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

VARKALA: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the Sivagiri Pilgrimage continues to be a source of eternal inspiration for the socio-cultural society of Kerala. He noted that the 93-year-old pilgrimage reflects the echoes of Sree Narayana Guru’s commitment to action and social reform. The Chief Minister was speaking while inaugurating the 93rd Sivagiri Pilgrimage Great Convention at the Sivagiri Auditorium.

Highlighting the history of the event, the CM mentioned that Guru gave the message for the pilgrimage on January 16, 1928, just months before his Samadhi. Guru envisioned this not as a conventional religious ritual to wash away sins, but as a confluence of all religious philosophies. He intended the pilgrimage to guide humanity toward material and social progress, which was the core essence of his spiritual life.

The Chief Minister reminded the gathering that Guru prescribed eight specific goals for the pilgrimage: Education, Hygiene, Devotion to God, Organization, Agriculture, Trade, Handicrafts, and Technical Training.

Guru had advised that experts in these fields should deliver lectures during the pilgrimage. He emphasized that the attendees should not just listen to these discourses but implement them in their daily lives to ensure the overall development of the community and the nation. (Keralanews.gov)
