WASHINGTON – The United States State Department reaffirmed on Thursday that it will continue its “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran to curtail funding for the regime’s military and nuclear ambitions. Despite the hardline stance, officials noted that diplomatic channels remain open.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Piggott highlighted that the strategy is designed to deny the Iranian government the resources necessary to fund “malign activities.” In an interview with Newsmax, Piggott criticized the regime’s spending priorities, stating that wealth is being diverted away from essential infrastructure like food and water toward proxy groups and nuclear development.
