THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the first phase of the 280-km Akkulam-Chettuva Waterway on Thursday, hailing it as a major milestone for inland navigation in the state. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Chilakoor Beach Park in Varkala, the CM announced plans to extend this water corridor to the Vizhinjam International Seaport.
The proposed extension is expected to significantly bolster the state’s water transport network, providing seamless connectivity to the upcoming international port and enhancing cargo movement. This infrastructure development is aimed at boosting economic activity across the coastal regions.
“This linkage will pave the way for a strong multi-modal logistics network in the state,” the Chief Minister added. The project is viewed as a crucial step in modernising Kerala’s logistics sector by integrating water, road, and port-based transport systems. (PTI)
