The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Thursday expressed strong condemnation over the assassination attempt on former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in Jammu. The party stated that those responsible for maintaining law and order must be held accountable for this serious security breach.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at Greater Kailash when a gunman opened fire as Abdullah was leaving a wedding ceremony along with Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary and other leaders. J&K Congress President Tariq Hamid Karra described the firing as a shocking event that raises grave concerns about the security scenario in the region.
He emphasized that the administration must ensure a safe environment for citizens and prevent the recurrence of such lawlessness. All India Congress General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir also termed the incident as unfortunate and called for a thorough investigation into how the security setup allowed such an attack to take place in a public area.
