LPG Crisis Triggers Migrant Worker Exodus from Kerala Ahead of Ramzan and Polls.

The acute shortage of LPG cylinders in Kerala has led to the temporary closure of numerous hotels and restaurants, sparking a mass exodus of migrant workers to their home states.

This trend is further intensified by the upcoming Ramzan season and the scheduled general elections in West Bengal and Assam. Employers in the hospitality sector are struggling to retain their workforce, fearing that those leaving now may not return until after the election cycle is complete.

G. Jayapal, State President of the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHRA), noted that workers from West Bengal and Assam typically head home at least a week prior to polling, and the current fuel crisis has only accelerated this departure, threatening the stability of the state’s service industry.
