American and Ukrainians Detained in India for Allegedly Training Myanmar Rebels in Drone Warfare.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has granted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) 11 days of custody to interrogate seven foreign nationals, including one American and six Ukrainians, arrested under anti-terror laws. The group is suspected of conspiring to train ethnic armed groups in Myanmar in advanced drone warfare. The NIA believes these groups have links to insurgent organisations operating within India, posing a significant security threat.

The American national, identified as Matthew VanDyke, was apprehended in Kolkata, while the Ukrainian nationals were picked up from Lucknow and Delhi. Investigations reveal that the group entered India on tourist visas, traveled to Mizoram, and crossed the international border into Myanmar without valid permits. Authorities also allege that large consignments of drones were routed from Europe to Myanmar through Indian territory. While the NIA continues its forensic analysis of seized digital evidence, the Ukrainian government has formally requested New Delhi to release its citizens.
