Kerala CM-Mohanlal Interview: Govt Spends Lakhs from Public Funds; RTI Reveal Details

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A recent RTI query has revealed that the Kerala government spent ₹11,21,000 from the state treasury for the high-profile interview between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and actor Mohanlal. Titled ‘Kandum Mindiyum Iruvar’, the interview was conducted at the Cliff House as part of an election campaign strategy. The response to the RTI filed by Rijo Vallamkulam from Thiruvalla also stated that no official government machinery was utilized for the production.

While reports indicate that Mohanlal did not charge a fee for the interview, the substantial expenditure on production and technical arrangements has drawn public attention. The interview, which gained significant traction on social media under the title ‘Iruvar’, is now at the center of a debate regarding the use of public funds for campaign-related content.
