Israel Hits Russian-Iranian Weapons Smuggling Route in the Caspian Sea.

In a historic first, Israel has conducted a direct strike on a naval outpost in the Caspian Sea, targeting a critical supply line used by Moscow and Tehran to transport drones and ammunition. The world’s largest inland sea, which remains beyond the reach of the U.S. Navy, has become a vital corridor for the two nations to exchange everything from Shahed drones to oil and wheat.

Last Wednesday’s operation focused on the port of Bandar Anzali, where the Israeli military reportedly hit dozens of targets, including warships, a command center, and shipyards used for vessel maintenance. Former Israeli Navy commander Eliezer Marum stated that the primary objective of the strike was to disrupt Russian smuggling operations and demonstrate that Iran lacks adequate sea defenses in the Caspian region.

This escalation comes amid expanding military cooperation between Russia and Iran, which has seen the sharing of satellite imagery and advanced drone technology to target assets across the Gulf. (WSJ)
