UDF Leader’s Bad Remark Sparks Row; LDF Candidate U. Pratibha to Take Legal Action.

A major political controversy has erupted in Kayamkulam after IUML leader and UDF constituency convener A. Irshad (Irshad Chakkalassery) made derogatory remarks against LDF candidate U. Pratibha. Speaking at a UDF election convention, Irshad allegedly stated that Pratibha, having failed to deliver any developmental work during her tenure as MLA, was now contesting the election by “showcasing her eloquence and physical beauty.” The remark, which has been widely condemned as sexist and an insult to women in public life, has drawn sharp criticism from various political quarters and social media users.

Responding to the insults, U. Pratibha stated that such comments are a clear sign of the UDF’s inability to challenge her on political or developmental grounds. She emphasized that targeting a woman representative’s physical appearance is a new low in political discourse and announced that a formal complaint would be filed with the Election Commission and the police. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other LDF leaders also condemned the statement, calling it a challenge to all women in the public sphere. Following the massive backlash, Irshad Chakkalassery has expressed regret over his remarks, though the LDF continues to press for strict action. (Kerala News)
