Major Corruption Uncovered in Kollam RTO; Driving School Owners Issued Licenses Using Official Login.

Kollam: A major corruption scandal has been unearthed at the Kollam Regional Transport Office (RTO), where a Vehicle Inspector allegedly handed over his official username and password to driving school owners. This breach allowed intermediaries to perform official duties on the ‘Vahan’ software, including the issuance and renewal of driving licenses.

A Vigilance investigation, which tracked the IP addresses used to access the portal, revealed that logins were being made directly from driving schools. As a result, licenses were reportedly issued to individuals who never appeared for driving tests or had failed them.

Furthermore, the probe found that vehicle registrations were renewed for several condemned vehicles and those lying scrapped in workshops, falsely marking them as fit for use. The investigation also noted that the officer in charge frequently left the office early after delegating his login credentials to subordinates and outside agents. (KN)
