Former Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has triggered a fresh controversy after failing to turn up to greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday. While several top leaders from the BJP and AIADMK lined up to welcome the PM, Annamalai’s absence was conspicuous.
BJP National Women’s Wing President Vanathi Srinivasan confirmed that although Annamalai’s name was on the official reception list, he did not attend. The Prime Minister arrived via a special flight and met with NDA leaders before departing for an election campaign in Palakkad.
Reports suggest that Annamalai is dissatisfied with the party high command regarding constituency allocations in Tamil Nadu. Responding to the incident, Vanathi Srinivasan stated that she is inquiring into the reason for his absence, while maintaining that the party leadership decides on responsibilities and that there is no internal rift.
