In a departure from traditional electioneering, UDF candidate Chandy Oommen has launched an eco-friendly campaign in the Puthuppally constituency by completely avoiding the use of wall posters and flex boards. Setting a new precedent for environmentally conscious politics, Chandy navigates the constituency on his hybrid bicycle every morning to connect with voters personally.
He explained that this low-cost strategy is aimed at redirecting campaign funds toward his mission of building homes for the homeless. By cutting down on expensive publicity materials, he expects to save over ₹25 lakh, which will be contributed to his goal of constructing 100 houses within five years. Focusing on door-to-door, digital, and voice-based campaigning, Chandy has already covered half of the grama panchayats in the constituency.
His unique approach has also influenced rival candidates from the LDF and NDA to scale back their campaign materials, making this election a notably low-key and sustainable affair. (TNIE)
