ALAPPUZHA: Minister Saji Cherian has launched a scathing attack on G Sudhakaran, who recently exited the CPM to contest the Ambalappuzha election as a rebel. Labeling him a “traitor” and a “deceiver,” Cherian alleged that Sudhakaran betrayed the party after reaping all its benefits and popularity. Speaking to reporters on Friday, the minister warned that he would publicly disclose damaging details about Sudhakaran if he continued to target the Communist movement.
Cherian emphasized that the Communist movement does not depend on the strength of a single individual and accused Sudhakaran of turning his back on the party for personal gains. He alleged that Sudhakaran had entered into a clandestine agreement with a senior Congress leader nearly eighteen months ago, a move the party failed to notice at the time. According to Cherian, Sudhakaran shifted his allegiance to the UDF camp within 24 hours of realizing he wouldn’t be the candidate for Ambalappuzha.
The minister also raised questions about Sudhakaran’s financial background, urging the public to examine his bank balance. He claimed that while leaders like himself and MLA Salam built their lives through hard work and bank loans, Sudhakaran amassed wealth during his tenure in the party. Dismissing allegations regarding the destruction of the P Krishnapillai Memorial, Cherian hinted that Sudhakaran might have been involved in such incidents himself, as they worked together during that period.
Furthermore, Saji Cherian took a dig at Congress leaders K C Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala, and V D Satheesan for backing Sudhakaran. He predicted that the UDF leadership would realize Sudhakaran’s “true character” within six months and warned that he would soon spark a crisis within the opposition ranks.
