According to an official update provided by the East of England Ambulance Service, the collision left 11 individuals with ‘very serious’ injuries, 22 with serious trauma, and 56 with minor injuries. Eddie Dempsey, the general secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), officially confirmed that the sole fatality of the crash was the train driver, who was also a respected former RMT representative. Dave Calfe, the general secretary of the train drivers’ union Aslef, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and praised the swift actions of the first responders.
