New Delhi: The Centre on Saturday appointed Cabinet Minister Pralhad Joshi as the new Union Education Minister, hours after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the post amidst intensifying agitation against NEET-UG paper leak and other examination irregularities.
Pralhad Joshi will hold the charge of the Ministry of Education in addition to his existing portfolio. The new appointment was made after President Droupadi Murmu, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Pralhad Joshi is presently the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New and Renewable Energy. During his previous tenure, he was the Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Minister.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader also represents Karnataka’s Dharwad constituency as Lok Sabha MP. Notably, Joshi has been elected as Dharwad MP for five consecutive terms. After being appointed as the Union Education Minister, Pralhad Joshi told the media that he accepts this responsibility with a sense of duty and humility. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added, “In the last 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, many historic achievements have been made.”
He further noted that Dharmendra Pradhan took several important initiatives during his tenure as the Education Minister. “Dharmendra Pradhan implemented the National Education Policy, and several important initiatives were undertaken. The country has made significant progress in the new education system. Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, I will work to the best of my ability and fulfil my responsibilities with dedication,” Joshi stated.
