New Delhi: Meta Chief Mark Zuckerberg has issued an apology to India. Reports indicate that the Meta head tendered an apology to the Indian Parliamentary Panel over issues including child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Meta platforms, deepfake content, and operational flaws in platform functioning. Reports also suggest that Meta admitted to accepting payments to promote specific types of content. However, there was no specific mention regarding the removal of the Prime Minister’s video.
Meta ads containing child sexual abuse material had recently drawn widespread criticism. Earlier, the parliamentary panel had issued an ultimatum demanding that Zuckerberg apologise for the removal of the Prime Minister’s video due to a technical glitch. Following this, high-level Meta officials arrived in India to meet Union IT Ministry officials on August 5 and 6. The reports of Zuckerberg’s apology emerged while these high-level meetings were underway.
