Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP will provide legal assistance to T.G. Mohandas, and his arrest is politically motivated, stated BJP State General Secretary Adv. S. Suresh. He alleged that Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala’s move was intended to appease religious fundamentalists. While clarifying that Mohandas’s statements were unacceptable, Suresh called the police action against him completely undemocratic. He further claimed that the arrest drama was part of an internal rivalry between Ramesh Chennithala and V.D. Satheesan, emphasizing that the BJP would offer full support to T.G. Mohandas and would not allow him to be targeted.
The BJP leader noted that while the party does not endorse Mohandas’s remarks, it cannot accept the framing of false charges against him. He alleged that the arrest was orchestrated to divert public attention from the government’s lapses in flood relief operations and the ongoing protests by coastal communities.
Suresh highlighted that no case had been registered against an individual who publicly threatened to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed the government was acting to win applause from anti-national elements and reiterated that the party would extend all legal aid to Mohandas. The BJP State General Secretary also accused the Muslim League leadership and ministers of fostering communalism by making inflammatory statements to ignite unnecessary controversies over the Vande Mataram and V.D. Savarkar issues.
